The “2018 Women and Sport World Award” of the International Olympic Committee goes to Eczacıbaşı Sports Club

Eczacıbaşı Sports Club, being a pioneering club in women’s volleyball worldwide, providing thousands of young girls with the opportunity to play volleyball, and increasing the presence of women in sports, has been awarded the “World Award” by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The award, given by the IOC for 18 years and the most prestigious in the field of women and sports, was presented to a sports club for the first time.

“This is an award that makes us very happy. Because this award is not directly related to the trophies we have won in sports or our international successes. Eczacıbaşı Sports Club, which started its journey with men’s basketball, chose to continue with women’s volleyball. By directing all resources and investments to this field, it made sports more accessible for women. It increased the participation of women and girls in volleyball. These efforts were crowned with the IOC award.” – Faruk Eczacıbaşı

Since 1966, focusing not only on club successes but also on training players, and bringing hundreds of young girls to volleyball, the number of licensed volleyball players trained by Eczacıbaşı Sports Club through its own volleyball programs reached 11,000 as of 2017.

We are proud to support women in every field

In addition to training professional women athletes, our club also emphasizes training volleyball coaches who will guide new generations correctly.

Not content with just bringing young girls to volleyball, Eczacıbaşı Sports Club also aims to increase the administrative presence of women in the field of sports. Today, 9 out of 19 management positions in the club are held by women (47%), while the number of female coaches and campus coordinators is 25 (45%).

Providing significant services to Turkish sports for 50 years by training many athletes and sports professionals, Eczacıbaşı Sports Club launched the “Spike for the Future” project to expand its activities in infrastructures, instill a sports culture in thousands of children, and discover the stars of the future. Eczacıbaşı Sports Club, which implemented the “Spike for the Future” project in cooperation with ES Volleyball in 2016, brought thousands of girls aged 6-13 to sports within the scope of the project.
